Being outdoor enthusiasts, our family was always doing something outside. Hunting, horseback riding and motorsports often checked the boxes. Some good friends introduced us to the Apalachia hills of West Virginia about 20 years ago and we quickly fell in love with the twisty roads, breathtaking scenery, and friendly people. Next thing we knew, we were heading for the "hills" every chance we got.
Over the years, we explored much of Eastern WV, hoping to find a place that we could call our “home away from home” but we kept being drawn to the Canaan Valley Area... but it’s not easy to find a place that offers such amenities:
· Accessibility by motorcycle/sports car/trailer
· Convenient access to grocery stores & hardware stores
· Good local restaurants
· Plenty of beds to sleep freinds and family
· And most important… A view!
The "little house on the corner" as the original owners called it definitely checked all of our boxes... especially the view! We never grow tired of it and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
Tucker was the name of one of our most cherished pets, but the term had other related meanings. A cabin "tucks-in" the side of a mountain. You "tuck" your children into bed. When you sit down for a meal, you "tuck-in" to the table. You 'tuck-in" when racing a horse or motorcycle. Seemed like we were always getting "tucked in" one way or another.
We always referred to our Lancaster County residence as “Tuck-Inn” , so it seemed fitting to call the WV house “Tucked Away”.
Each room is named for a pup who has meant the world to us durring their lives with us.
Tucker, a chocolate labradoodle, was arguably 'the best d%^& dog' you could know. He was the respected head of his 'pack' and thus his name-sake room is the Main Bedroom.
Bailey was a spirited standard poodle with cream colored curls, her favorite spot was always the end of the couch with the best view of the entire living space which lended perfectly to her namesake room.
Murphy was a black and silver labradoodle, the offspring of Tucker and Bailey who picked us as “his people” and never left our sides, ready to help with the kids or play hard with dad, his name sake room is near the rec-room.
Beauford was a Saint Bernard and one of our first family pets who loved to chase geese on the pond and babysit the kids. His room is the 'kids' room since he was always our 4-legged babysitter.
There’s so many places to stay in the area, you really can’t go wrong. While many places are in the middle of the hustle-and-bustle of local attractions, Tucked Away is just that….tucked away. Seems like we’re just about 30 minutes from just about anything you might need or want to do. To us it is the perfect vacation spot: far enough away from things to feel like we got away and had a break, but close enough we can go out and have fun whenever we want adventure.
If you’re looking for a place to unwind with some family and friends and enjoy some of the beauty and serenity that the mountains offer, then Tucked Away may be just what you’re looking for.
